What is CYGO Network’s LibreScale?

LibreScale is a resource which lists social networks claiming to provide a free-speech environment against CYGO Network and others using objective criteria, allowing individuals to make their own judgements about such platforms.

How is the ‘Overall Consensus’ determined?

The Overall Consensus presented for each platform in LibreScale is an opinion regarding how closely other ranked platforms follow the same standards as CYGO Network. It is important to note that this is our opinion; you are encouraged to also draw your own conclusions from the objective criteria presented.

Why aren’t traditional social networks included?

LibreScale is only for ranking social networks who claim to support freedom of expression.

Why are for-profit social networks considered problematic?

For-profit social networks are funded by investors and advertisers. Often, they sell users’ personal data in order to serve personalized ads through their social network. Additionally, policies are often shaped by advertisers and investors; which may lead to the limit of speech which is contrary to the views held by said advertisers and investors.

Why should I be concerned about hate speech clauses?

The problem with banning “hate speech”, is that hate speech is not specifically defined, but rather is used as a subjective term. When social networks implement anti-hate speech policies, or other subjective policies, often the individuals with power target users who express viewpoints contrary to their own. It’s also imperative to mention that, while unpleasant, speech that is hateful, rude, demeaning, or even racist is still free speech, and banning such speech is a violation of that concept.
